What the Electronic Data Processing Test Is.
The Electronic Data Processing Test (EDPT) is a specialized aptitude test used by the U.S. Air Force and Marine Corps. It’s designed to identify candidates who have a strong potential for success in technical, computer-related career fields. The test is known to be challenging due to its complex questions and the time pressure involved.
Its Purpose in Qualifying Candidates
The primary purpose of the EDPT is to screen and qualify candidates for careers that are mentally demanding and require a high degree of logical and analytical thinking. These career fields often involve programming, data analysis, and other complex electronic data processing tasks. A qualifying score on the EDPT is a prerequisite for entry into several Air Force Specialty Codes (AFSCs), including those in cyber warfare and computer programming. The test helps ensure that individuals selected for these roles have the foundational cognitive abilities to succeed in the rigorous training and job duties associated with these technical fields.
Assesses Aptitude for Logical Thinking and Problem-Solving
The EDPT assesses a candidate's aptitude for logical thinking and problem-solving through a variety of question types that do not require prior knowledge of programming or advanced computer science. Instead, the test focuses on innate cognitive skills.
"Gee whiz"
The EDPT test has roots dating back to the 1960’s! The following document explains how it came about.
-
The EDPT is comprised of 120 questions with a time limit of 90 minutes
Questions are seperated into 4 distinct sections
Change Comparisons
Number Series/Patterns
Math Word Problems (ie. Algebra)
Word Analogies
-
90 minutes to answer 120 questions leaves 45 seconds to answer each question.
The questions are not separated into different sections.
The goal of the EDPT is to create a stressful environment with time being the main stressor.
In order to combat this, Answer every question in 15 to 30 seconds.
If you do not know the answer, guess and move on. There is not enough time to physically write out the problem or to think about it for a long period due to the amount of questions.

The tactics discussed today are for the benefit of the prospective individuals taking the test.
These tools do not guarantee passing the test and does not address the issue of stress management.
Ultimately, it is up to you to study and find the correct way to use the tools discussed in your own way.
